Christmas Bread with Custard,Cranberries and butter milk pudding

For this bread you need just few ingredients, raisins bread or old bread, vanilla custard cream, butter milk cream to transform in a classic delicious Christmas dessert. Decorated with edible flowers,fresh cranberries, to give extra touch. Serve it with warm cranberrie sauce, sour cream,whipped cream, powdered sugar and with your favorit cup of coffee. For the coming holidays can be a inspiring recipe with fresh bread or leftovers.

For this recipe i use leftovers – Christmas stollen with marzipan


Preheated the oven 180°c

  • 500g Christmas bread or raisins bread
  • 300g cranberries (fresh)
  • 1 pack of 70g vanilla pudding powder
  • 1 lemon (juice and zest)
  • 1 orange and piece of orange peel
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Powdering sugar (decoration)
  • Edible flowers (decoration)
  • 2tlsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 100g unsalted butter

Grease a round baking tin with oil or greased baking paper. I use paper Put a layer of old bread on top,

For the vanilla pudding

  1. 1 pack of 70g vanilla pudding powder
  2. 60 g of sugar, 150 ml of cream, 350 ml of milk,

*Make the vanilla pudding powder according the packaging
I have one of 70g where I first;

  • Dissolve the powder in some cold milk
  • Bring the milk, cream, sugar to the boil.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and pour in the milk and powder solution with constant stirring.
  • Allow to simmer for 1 minute while stirring.

For the butter milk pudding mixture

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 1 tlsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 egg

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and bring it over the bread

For the cranberrie sauce

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup water
  • 300g fresh cranberries ( I  leave a handful of berries whole for before i bring to the oven
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 piece of orange peel


  1. In a saucepan combine the sugar, orange juice, and water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir to combine.
  2. Add cranberries, salt, and orange peel.
  3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently ,continuous cooking for about 10 minutes or until all or the cranberries have popped.
  4. Let cool for at least 30 minutes Cover  until ready to use, that keeps the flavors better

  1. Put a layer of bread on top in the shape you like
  2. Custard mixture
  3. Cranberrie sauce
  4. After cover with the milk butter egg mixture and few small pices of butter before you bring to the over

Place the baking tin in the middle of the oven and bake until golden brown. About 30 minutes.
